Mad for Mad Men… 9 More Days Until Season 3

August 7, 2009 by D. A. Wolf Leave a Comment

Nine more days!

January Jones in pearls, gloves, with cigarette in hand - 60s glamNine days to go, and it’s back! When it comes to good television, this definitely qualifies. It’s the Season 3 opener of AMC TV’s Mad Men.

Ooooo I love the provocative push-pull of 60s propriety and its shady underbelly – the illicit affairs, the deceptive dialogue, questionable ethics, and steamy scenes.

Once you watch, you’re hooked

For those who are already addicted, you know why.

For those who have yet to watch, pour yourself a drink and settle back – you’re in for a treat. The characters are charismatic, the settings are seductive, and the writers keep us guessing through somber and sexy intrigue.

Want more?

When it comes to subtle performances, Mad Men is tastier than a mid-century meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Visually? Its ambiance guarantees instant time travel – from the fashions to the décor to the moody lighting, this show gets it right.

It’s glitzy, glamorous, sultry and seedy – everything we recall (or imagine) of the early sixties, not to mention Madison Avenue.

Life imitating art imitating life…

Check out AMCTV’s page on Mad Men. They’re featuring a video that offers a behind-the-scenes look at how they’re promoting this show; a glimpse inside an ad campaign about people who create ad campaigns.

Mad Men coming soon

The idea is clever (life imitating art imitating life), Mad Men Season 2 photo of Peggyand the campaign itself is both smart and striking, with its nifty metaphor of hero Don Draper literally under water. And keeping his cool, as the water level rises.

What can we look forward to?

There’s certain to be all the glitz and glamor of Seasons 1 and 2: swanky bars with dark paneling, cocktail parties galore, cigarettes and sexist remarks, and scads of secrets in the lives of the Sterling Cooper ad execs, and their spouses.

Apparently, there’s even more drama ahead from this talented ensemble cast. And I can’t wait to welcome them back into my home, with all their shades of gray, their surface gloss, and underlying melancholy.

I’ll be searching for a Mad Men Premiere Party – or maybe I’ll throw one!

I’ll doll myself up appropriately from head to toe: black liner on the lids, deep red lips, triple strand of pearls at the neck, a waist cinching dress,  white gloves, and of course – classic pumps.

What else?

An ample supply of Dirty Martinis on hand, as I lean back to indulge in my guilty pleasure.
