It’s been a hectic week, but not too hectic for a quick shout out all the same. Here’s to five time French Open winner Rafael Nadal, who took the Grand Slam title earlier today in Paris, beating Sweden’s Robin Soderling, 6-4, 6-2, 6-4.
Saturday’s Women’s Final saw powerhouse Australian Samantha Stosur fall to underdog, Francesca Schiavone, 6-4, 7-6. Schiavone is the first Italian woman to win a Grand Slam.
Bravo! (And Wimbledon is just around the corner!)

Funny how you mentioned your dad’s hand finding yours this time of year in yesterday’s post. I always watched the major tennis tournaments with my mother-in-law, but without her I did not watch. When I read your post I felt the silence of her presence.
As for the Lakers, I hope some of you guys on the east coast are going to be rooting for them… but I’m not holding my breath (nor will I be silent on Tuesday).

I do feel my father more at certain times. As Father’s Day approaches, even with all the years that have passed since he died, I think of him more of course. Partly, because of the nature of the day, but also because the last time I saw my father was on Father’s Day. A wonderful day spent together, out of town, with him and his father, then approaching 90.
My dad also loved tennis – along with NBA basketball, NFL football, PGA Golf, and MLB baseball… watching any major sporting event makes him feel closer. But sorry to tell you, Bruce, I’m a Celtics fan born and bred. And used to go to the old Garden back in the hey day of Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. Those early allegiances remain intact. I root for the guys in green. That was some beautiful basketball back in the days of 32 and 00. Oh, the Chief!
